St John’s

St John the Evangelist Church is defined by 10am Friday Communion, Cafe Church, our preschool events and multiple uses by our local community. It was built in the 1860’s and consecrated in 1870. It replaced an earlier ‘Iron Chapel’ built for the visitors of Filey’s Crescent and the surrounding area. St John’s became derelict and was repurposed in the 1960’s with a brick wall across the nave, transforming the rear part into our Parish Centre with an upstairs Concert Hall.

In the 21st Century the Church has been given a major facelift with a carpeted multi purpose area and Parish Office in the former organ loft. The multipurpose church floor of 14×18 metres can be used for a variety of events.

Our Parish remembers with great love, the efforts of the late Gillian Wilson in achieving the beautiful modern worship space. Her full description of the church’s history can be found here:
