We are a growing and enthusiastic church family that offers a variety of styles and services from fairly traditional to more relaxed and informal. Every Sunday morning (except 5th Sundays) there are services at St Oswald’s and St Thomas’ and every second and fourth Sunday we have a more informal Cafe Church service at St John’s, which is suitable for all ages. On the 5th Sunday we join together at 10am in St John’s. Take a look at ‘Service Times’ for more details.

The three Churches in the Parish are:

• St Thomas’ – A small mission church in the nearby village of Gristhorpe
• St Oswald’s – A 12th Century parish church
• St John’s – A Victorian church, part converted into St John’s Parish Centre

Alongside the vicar we have a large team of retired clergy and volunteers working in the local community, such as in the schools doing classes, clubs and Collective Worship as well as ‘Open the Book’ and ‘Prayer Spaces in Schools’.  There is a Pastoral Team who visit the sick or bereaved. A Prayer and Healing group and ‘Prayer Chain’ when people may be in specific need. Through our facilities at St John’s Centre, we have a variety of other community activities such as a Baby and Toddler Group, Friendship Teas and Charity Fund Raising lunches.

Our particular aim is to be a family of people who love and serve God in both word and action within the life of the church and local community.
